The ANC Gauteng Legislature Caucus welcomes the launch of the anti-land invasion strategy
We welcome the initiative to proactively deal with illegal land sales and land grabs by criminal syndicates who exploit the legitimate need for land for human settlements. Illegal land invasions and illegal land sales cause a huge disruption to the planning and development of human settlement. We call upon all those who have been victims to illegal land sale to lay criminal charges against those that have sold them land illegally and we call for communities to be vigilant and alert authorities whenever such illegal sale and grab of land occurs as this also affects ratepayers badly as those that grab land connect illegally to the electrical grid and cause massive electrical cuts as well as disrupt the water network which leads to massive water leaks and cuts.
We urge the communities to support the
1,500 community patrollers to be deployed as part of the programme to proactively dissuade illegal land invasions in the province.
We further urge the communities to isolate populists and instigators who take advantage of their plight and instead report these unscrupulous elements to the law enforcement authorities.
Issued by the Office of the Chief Whip, Cde Mzi Khumalo.
