FAREWELL TO MAMA MARRY TWALA- MHLONGO
Mama Mary Twala- Mhlongo is a doyen of black excellence who paved the way for black people to tell their stories using the entertainment platform.
Her illustrious career spanning many years brought both laughter and hope during the dark days of apartheid.
She received many honors for the various roles she played on television and in movies. She starred in many tv series and production throughout the years and recently she starred in Generations, Hopeville, Ubizo, and the iconic Sarafina alongside her son Somizi Mhlongo.
A befitting tribute to her lifelong commitment to the arts sector is the conferment of Order of Ikhamanga for achievements in arts, culture, literature, music, journalism, and sports, bestowed on her by President Cyril Ramaphosa during the 2019 National Orders Awards.
Mary Twala-Mhlongo who was 80 years old, passes on during this difficult time when we are grappling with Covid-19.
The legendary Mama Mary Twala-Mhlongo leaves behind a rich legacy that generations to come will hopefully emulate.
We have indeed lost a rare talent.
